Learning Logic News

Learning Logic on MS Windows:

The Virtual Network Computing product, VNCViewer, permits viewing Learning Logic screens from almost any MS Windows operating system. This is very similar to using the Adobe Acrobat Reader® to view PDF documents. Installation of the VNC viewer is simple and places an icon on the desktop. A student double clicks the icon to bring up a Learning Logic login screen. This approach does require at least a 1 GHz processor and 1024 Megabytes of memory on the server to support 30 student stations. The student stations require processing speeds of 250 MHz and at least 128 Megabytes of memory.

Pre-Algebra Curriculum:

The National Science Center (NSC) is proud to announce that the process of completing the new Pre-Algebra curriculum is finished. Along with Pre-Algebra there is a workbook that allows students to work on as they progress through Pre-Algebra using Learning Logic.

Training Workshop Registration Form

This Registration form is for the teacher training that will be available in June and July 2008. The form will be available closer to training. In addition to this form, there are driving directions from the Atlanta area and from Columbia South Carolina, an outline of the material covered, and an agenda for each of the training sessions.

New Learning Logic Features

Name Change:

Since its first release in 1989, the only Learning Logic course has been named Introduction to Algebraic Concepts. The National Science Center has now created a new name for our outstanding program. The program will now be called Learning Logic Algebra. This name is more descriptive and allows for future additional courses to be added.

Offline Homework:

The "Testing" menu has a new option for teachers. This option has been what many of you have been waiting for. The offline homework option will allow offline homework to be given at any time, even when a student has not mastered a particular topic. Click on offline homework in the testing menu. Homeworks are still randomly generated and also allow the teacher to select the number of problems that are presented to the student. As with any of our offline options, an answer key can be printed if necessary.

Algebra I End-Of-Course Test:

As an aid in preparing for End-Of-Course Tests (EOCT), the NSCF has developed a test template that covers the different Quality Core Curriculum (QCC) requirements for Algebra I. The Listed Test can be used to generate review tests for your students. The list includes 88 topics. This can be used as one large review test of 264 questions that would provide three questions from each topic. It could also be divided into smaller groupings of topics for shorter tests or used with additional questions from each topic.

Symbol Menu:

The Symbol Menu now provides an annotation window that displays the symbol, its equivalent keyboard input sequence, and a description of the symbol currently under the mouse pointer.

Learning Logic periodically sends a printed newsletter to the schools using Learning Logic. The newsletters keep Learning Logic teachers up to date on activities, recent and planned changes to Learning Logic, and activities at other Learning Logic schools. The newsletters are also sometimes used to pass along suggestions for improved use of the Learning Logic system.
